The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon

A peek at what a week looks like

Chapters 1–15 (pages 1–130) — We're off! Daniel Sempere, age ten, is taken by his father to the legendary Cemetery of Forgotten Books, where he chooses 'The Shadow of the Wind' by the mysterious Julián Carax. Instantly bewitched, Daniel sets out to learn everything about Carax — only to discover that someone is erasing him from history, one burned book at a time. We meet the irrepressible Fermín Romero de Torres, future best friend and walking comedy goldmine, and we begin to sense that Barcelona in 1945 is a city where the past refuses to stay buried.

The Cemetery of Forgotten Books is one of the most magical settings in modern fiction. If YOU were taken there as a child, what book do you think would have chosen you — and why?
